On October 21, I was a guest on Steve Finnie’s aviation radio show broadcast on KNTS, 1220 AM. My primary purpose in going on the show was to highlight some of the issues currently facing general aviation. In particular, I wanted to talk about the user fees being proposed in Senate bill 1300 and what listeners can do about it. I also wanted to highlight the need to grow the pilot population in the U.S.
I’ve uploaded some audio clips from the show. Just click on…
…each of the six links below to hear the .mp3 files. The total show ran one hour, and I’ve edited it down to focus on the main issues we discussed. Steve first asked me about the NAFI Master Instructor program. You can learn more about NAFI at the National Association of Flight Instructors website.
Later we talked about the Million Pilot Challenge–the need to attract more new pilots to keep aviation strong.
We also talked about the need to fight proposed user fees and about the Aviation Trust Fund. We wrapped things up by talking about Preserving General Aviation and the Sport Pilot certificate.
Early in the show, Steve also asked me how I got started in aviation and about my Max Trescott’s G1000 Glass Cockpit Handbook. He also asked about the Avidyne glass cockpit system used in Cirrus aircraft and why glass cockpits show more information than round gauge aircraft when systems fail.
Radio is a great medium for reaching large audiences, and pilots everywhere should consider getting booked on one of their local stations to talk about flying and how to become a pilot.
