Rod Machado dinner event – November 1 Hiller Museum, San Carlos

If you’ve never heard Rod speak then you’re in for a real treat. He’s one of the funniest aviation speakers on the planet, so it’s bound to be hilarious evening. Floatplane Pilot Rescues Thrown Boater from Lake

On April 30, 2012, three seaplane pilots rescued a boater just before dark who’d had been thrown in the water. 20-year old Alexander James Higginbotham was already becoming hypothermic while treading water for 15-20 minutes in the frigid 45° water. He’d been in a 14-foot fishing boat when the bolts he used to attach a seat to the boat broke, sending him backwards into the water. Rusty Eichorn, an Itasca County Commissioner, owned the Cessna 180 floatplane that made the rescue and he was assisted by pilots Lynn Bohanon and Kenny Forst who were also on board.

Max Trescott AirVenture Videos 2011

Flying the Lake Amphibian LA-4-200 Seaplane

This video shows a series of water landings on canals in the Delta region of northern California. The canals in this video are a few miles northeast of Byron Airport. The pilot, Max Trescott, is the 2008 National Flight Instructor of the Year and teaches flying out of the Palo Alto Airport in the San Francisco Bay Area.

The Lake LA-4-200, also known as the Buccaneer, is an American four-seat light amphibious aircraft. Lake Amphibians have their roots in the grand tradition of flying boats maintained by the Grumman Corporation through the first half of the 20th century.
